MERDEKA MEANS FREEDOM AND UNITY...Malaysia got its independence on 31st of August 1957.This was because of the effort for independence by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, who led a delegation of ministers and political leaders of Malaya in negotiations with the British in London for independence with the first president of the Malayan Chinese Association (MCA) Tun Dato Sir Tan Cheng Lock and fifth President of Malaysian Indian Congress ( MIC )Tun V.T. Sambanthan.
What merdeka means to me... Merdeka means unity and freedom where Malaysians get their own rights. Merdeka has thought me to be united no matter you are poor or rich or in any religion. Merdeka has also made me to be a responsible Malaysian and be proud of my country.
The theme for Merdeka this year is ‘PERPADUAN TERAS KEJAYAAN’ . Perpaduan means unity and kejayaan means success. The theme means unity leads to success. Through this theme, i have learnt that we have to be united in order to succeed.
The blue colour in the logo represents unity. The red colour represents bravery. Yellow represents our King and Queen and the rulers of the country. The design shows three men together with their shoulders on each other which shows the theme of this year’s Merdeka . draft
